Deleted Labels Are Still Suggested in the Label Field

Here’s How to Fix It

  • If you’ve deleted a label in Jira but it’s still appearing as a suggestion, don’t worry—this is a known issue. Jira stores recently used labels in your browser’s local storage, which can cause deleted labels to persist. Here is an Atlassian ticket for this matter.

Here’s how to resolve it:

1. Refresh the Page

  • Sometimes, a simple page refresh can clear cached data and resolve the issue. Try reloading the Jira page to see if the deleted labels disappear.

2. Clear Your Browser Cache

Cached data in your browser might be causing the deleted labels to still appear. Here’s how to clear it:

  1. Open your browser’s Developer Tools (usually accessible via F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I).

  2. Go to the Application tab (or Storage in Firefox).

  3. Under Local Storage, find your Jira URL.

  4. Right-click and select Delete All to remove temporary data.

  5. Reload the Jira page and check if the issue is resolved.

3. Check Project Configuration

Ensure the deleted labels are not still associated with your project configuration:

  • Go to Project Settings in Jira.

  • Review the labels and confirm they’ve been properly removed.

  • By following these steps, you should hopefully be able to address the issue of deleted labels still being suggested in the label field within Jira.

  • If the issue persists after trying the above steps, it may be a technical problem with your Jira instance. Reach out to your Jira administrator or support team for further assistance.

  • If you encounter the error “Field 'labels' cannot be set. It is not on the appropriate screen”, it means the label field is not included in the Create or Edit screens.

Add the Label Field to the Appropriate Screen

    1. Go to Project Settings > Issue Types.

    2. Search for your label field and add it to the relevant screens.

  • For Company-Managed Projects:

    1. Go to Project Settings > Issues > Layout > Edit Issue Layout.

    2. Search for your label field and add it to the appropriate screens.

To check which type project you need help with, look at the bottom of your project’s left-hand sidebar: If you see an icon stating You’re in a team-managed project and Learn more menu items, you're in a team-managed project:

Colors are not showing in the board cards.

We’ve received similar feedback from many customers regarding this feature. Unfortunately, due to an Atlassian limitation, this functionality is not currently available. However, we recently met with Atlassian to discuss the possibility of adding color customization to board cards.

As a result, Atlassian has created a ticket in their backlog to track this request. To help prioritize its development, we encourage you to vote on the ticket and leave a comment to express your interest. The more engagement it receives, the higher the chances of implementation.
