When editing label name, you might get the above error. This happens when label is not in Create or Edit Screen. You can add label to those screen, and it should work as expected.
You can create many label fields for different use cases: Project Phases , Feature Areas , Team Responsibility, Definition of Done (DoD), Definition of Ready, Acceptance Criteria or simple Select List .

Add the Label Field to the Appropriate Screen
For Team-Managed Projects:
Go to Project Settings > Issue Types.
Search for your label field and add it to the relevant screens.

Search for your label field and add it to the appropriate screens.
To check which type project you need help with, look at the bottom of your project’s left-hand sidebar: If you see an icon stating You’re in a team-managed project and Learn more menu items, you're in a team-managed project:
Select Project settings > Issue types > Search and add you colored label field
If you don't, you're in a company-managed project.
Select Project settings > Issues > Layout > Edit Issue Layout > Search and add your colored label field
